Here's a quick classic read about risk-benefit calculations with ECT in patients with "complicating physical problems." The assessment of the lethality of the the suicide attempt by gunshot wound to the head ("It was felt that her suicidal attempt was genuine") is so laconic, it is dryly humorous. The consultation with a neurosurgeon shows collaborative care, and the patient recovered from her severe depression with ECT.
